| | CATCH, William | The person I am after information on is a Mr. William Catch who married my grandmother a Mrs. Rose Rabbetts who was
widowed on the 9th. April 1920. They married 24th. February 1934. her age was 60 years shown as widow and address
as 30 Yorke Street, Southsea in the borough of Portsmouth. Father Charles Summers deceased .profession, Platelayer
Railway.
William Catch age 51 years on the wedding certificate, shown as a widower and a railway lengthman, his place of
residence is given as 17 Kassasin Street Eastney this would have been in Portsmouth, Hants it was the house my aunt
lived in with her husband and two children. My uncle was a colour sergeant in the Royal Marines and based in Eastney
Barracks Whether William Catch lodged there or not I do not know. His father William Catch deceased and shown as
Paddlar under rank or profession on the wedding certificate.
My Grandmother and her new husband moved to Oakley in Hampshire I am assuming in 1934. My brother and myself used to
spend school holidays with them. I would have been 9/10 years of age.
. William Catch worked for the Southern Railway at Oakley, that is near Basingstoke as a platelayer or lengthman and
they lived at what is now known as 5 Manor Cottages, Rectory Road, East Oakley, Near Basingstoke Hampshire, RG23 7LJ.
I do know this is fact because I have visited within the last year or so and spoken to the resident who has lived
there for the last 30 or so years.
She said William Catch's name is not on the house deeds so it was assumed he rented the place. They lived there for
a few years and then moved back to Portsmouth prior to the second World War in 1939. This would have put his age at
about 54/55 so the chances are he got a transfer back to the
Portsmouth area, and lived at 17 Kassasin Street Eastney, where my aunt and Uncle used to live. I think my Uncle, the
one in the Royal Marines was transferred to the Isle of Man prior to the war. I do not know where William Catch did
finish his railway career but my memory seems to tell me he was involved in building an establishment associated with
Railways just outside of Eastleigh, but we basically lost touch for a long time but the both of them did come to my
wedding in 1946 he would have been still under retirement age and my grand mother around 72 years of age but in those
days 21 year olds were not really interested in people aged 65/70 or above so to be honest I really do not have a
clue as to when he retired or passed on so this is why I am hoping for your help. | W. H. Rabbetts | 1880-1960

| | CLARK, Henry | I am trying to find out more about my great-grandfather Henry Clark and his ancestors in the Essex/London/Middlesex area which has been very difficult so far. He worked on the railway as an ER Foreman and Goods Foreman on the railway in the 1891, 1901, 1911 census. His son Henry Edwin Clark worked as a railway clerk at the time of the 1911 census. He had another son, Vincent Alfred, who was my grandfather.

| | COLMAN, George Frederick | My Great Grandfather: George Frederick Colman, DOB: 1854, Manchester.
He held the position of General Manager/Secretary for the Railway in Southport, Great London North West Railways??
He resided at 15 Huntingdon Street, Southport and also at 2 Fleetwood Street, Southport.
He had 3 x children: May Colman, DOB: 1879/80
George Frederick Colman - Jnr - DOB: 23 05/1881
John Joseph Colman. DOB: 7/11/1885: John is my Grandfather.
He, George F. Colman, retired in Southport in 1895/6?, and went to 1895/6? to Rio de Janiero, South America to help manage building the new railway line.
His wife Mary Burke died on 23 May 1881 at the 2 Fleetwood Street, Southport address.
Apparently George came back to Manchester area after the South America job.
I can not trace him or other family in the UK.
All I know is this about my Grandfather: John Joseph. - He went to South Africa around 1910/15
He changed his names to John Gerome Algernon/Algin and put an E in our surname Coleman. maybe a spelling mistake?
He married a Irish lady - Elizabeth Anne Leonard in Johannesburg, South Africa, and My farther Brian Norman was born.
I never knew both my Grandparents as they died before I was born. Both my parents were murdered in 1963 in Swaziland. I was then 5 years old, and adopted by my mothers sister in South Africa.
Thus, my problem is I do not have family to ask them information about my ancestors.
Can you please help to trace any of my old and current family?
Me and my family came back to the UK in 2000. We live on Mersea Island, Colchester, Essex. Phone: 01206-381578.
I do not have funds to pay for the Family tree search as advertised by some companies.
